A Lady Lake woman was charged after bracing herself against Circle K property to avoid being arrested for a warrant.

An officer patrolling near Circle K, located at 900 S 14th St., observed 43-year-old Lisa Ruth Powers sitting on the right side of the business at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

As soon as the officer parked, she stood up, put on a black-and-white baseball cap and started walking away. But the officer had already seen her face and knew she had an active arrest warrant out of Sumter County for failure to appear for possession of methamphetamine. He then followed her to the other side of the business toward the gas pumps, where he called her name several times, the report said.

Powers finally turned to face him, and her demeanor became confrontational while waiting for more law enforcement to arrive. When dispatch confirmed the warrant was active, she tried to leave. The officer attempted to place her under arrest at that point, the report said.

She actively resisted by pulling her arms away from the officer and refusing to listen to commands. Furthermore, as she was pinned to a nearby cage belonging to the business, she braced herself against it. Her left hand reached toward the handgun area of the officer’s belt, although it was unclear if she was trying to grab the gun, the report said.

When the officer noticed this, another officer showed up to assist. A subsequent search of Powers yielded a pair of scissors in the front right side of her shirt pocket. She refused to comment on this discovery and, once more, actively resisted by refusing to walk or get into a patrol vehicle, the report said.

Powers was charged with failure to appear (possession of methamphetamine) and resisting officer without violence. She was booked at the Lake County Jail without bond.

The New Mexico native has been arrested numerous times in the past, including twice in October last year for an altercation with a landlady in The Villages and screaming naked near a Lowe’s loading dock. She was also arrested in May 2024 with meth in her bra, in Dec. 2023 for stealing from Walmart, and in May 2023 on drug charges.
