A Clermont woman will appear in court for refusing to leave a gynecologist’s office when told her insurance was inactive.

Officers responded to the office of Dr. Shelley Glover on State Road 50 regarding 43-year-old Shanna Alaina Francis Seitlin refusing to leave the gyno specialty business at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28, according to a case report from the Clermont Police Department.

Upon their arrival, a staff member opened the front door and waved for their assistance. They could hear Seitlin’s loud voice from inside as they got closer, and they saw her yelling at staff members at the reception window once they stepped inside. Other staff members tried to continue helping other patients, but Seitlin refused to back away from the reception area, the report said.

At one point, a staff member had to position herself between Seitlin and another patient attempting to speak with reception. One of the officers then instructed her to come outside to talk to the police. Another officer spoke with staff in the meantime, the report said.

They advised that Seitlin became upset after being told her insurance was inactive, and payment would be required before treatment in accordance with office policy. They tried to help her by contacting her insurance provider, but the company confirmed the policy remained inactive. Despite multiple explanations and attempts to assist her, Seitlin continued yelling at staff, demanding the office bill her directly, and refusing to calm down or leave the premises, the report said.

Her behavior disrupted the business and required multiple staff members to stop assisting other patients to address the problem. Dr. Glover wished to have Seitlin trespassed from the property because of it, the report said.

During Seitlin’s interview, she remained visibly upset and continued speaking loudly with law enforcement. She refused multiple commands to lower her voice and argued that the business was required to comply with her demands. She was given several chances to leave the property voluntarily, yet she refused, the report said.

She was subsequently detained in handcuffs, which she actively resisted by pulling her arms away. She dropped her body weight to the ground while being escorted to a patrol vehicle, as well, leaving a minor cut to her arm. After being treated by EMS, she became calm and talked normally, the report said.

Seitlin was ultimately issued a notice to appear for disorderly conduct. She is due in court on June 17.
