A New York woman was arrested on a theft charge after attempting to leave Walmart with $212 in stolen goods.

A deputy responded to Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, to help an asset protection employee detain 66-year-old Lucille Ottah around 10:10 p.m. Sunday, May 10, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The employee had seen her trying to leave the store with 34 unpaid items worth $212.50 in her cart. When she tried to stop Ottah, she walked back into the store with the cart. The deputy subsequently escorted her to the loss prevention office for the investigation, the report said.

Surveillance footage showed Ottah pushed her cart to the home goods exit, where she stopped to speak with an associate. Once they walked away, she tried to leave with the cart. She was then approached by asset protection and another associate. She did not comply with their request to stop, which was when the deputy apprehended her, the report said.

Ottah was arrested on charge of retail theft and booked at the the Lake County Jail South Office. She was released after posting $500 bond.
