A Leesburg woman was arrested for battery after allegedly throwing water on her sister, causing her to slip.

A deputy received a call regarding a physical altercation between 72-year-old Linda Marie Owens and her sister at 11:15 a.m. Monday, May 4, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival at their Leesburg home, the deputy met Owens outside. She showed him blood on the top of her left hand, and he noticed a small scrape above her right eye.

Owens went on to say that her sister came toward her during an argument, and she slipped on some water on the floor. When she fell, she must have scraped her hand on something in the kitchen, injuring her, the report said.

The deputy then went inside the home to the kitchen. Owens advised that she had a pot of water, and when her sister came inside, she threw it at her. This was the cause of the water on the floor and her sister slipping, the report said.

The deputy did not notice any water on the floor, but he did see dried blood on the kitchen countertop, the report said.

During her interview, the sister advised that she and Owens were arguing. She entered the house to go to her room, but she had to walk past Owens. This was when Owens threw water on her, causing her to slip, the report said.

The report noted Owens did not call for deputies until a few hours later. This explained why the deputy did not notice any water on the floor or the sister’s shirt. At that point, the deputy determined Owens was the primary aggressor.

Owens was subsequently arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
