A Leesburg man was arrested after admitting he carried a pistol on his person during a battery investigation.
An officer responded to the home of 30-year-old Shaheem Dequesz Carter on Patrice Hope Street around 6:10 p.m. Sunday, May 3, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He alleged that his wife was hitting him.

While on scene, he stated several times that he carries a pistol on his person. A check of his criminal history determined he had two prior felony convictions from Sept. 11, 2023, meaning he should not be carrying a firearm of any kind, the report said.
A subsequent search of his person revealed a black Canik TP9 .9mm semi-automatic pistol in a holster in his waistband, the report said.
Carter was then arrested on charge of possession of firearm or ammo by convicted felon. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released on his own recognizance the following morning. He is responsible for appearing in court on June 1.
