A Clermont man was arrested for driving under the influence after being stopped for speeding on the way to Costco with his young daughter.
An officer stopped a vehicle at RaceTrac, 3201 S Hwy. 27, for traveling 75 mph in a 55-mph zone around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Clermont Police Department. When he approached the driver, 46-year-old Bryan Edward Mosser, he smelled alcohol on his breath and heard how he slurred his speech.

These indicators of impairment became stronger the longer they spoke, so the officer called for assistance. When backup arrived, he asked Mosser to participate in field sobriety exercises. Mosser spoke slowly and swayed while standing at that point, but he agreed to do them, the report said.
He struggled to keep his balance as the exercises began. He also did not follow the instructions. In the end, his performance led the officers to conclude he was under the influence, the report said.
Mosser later refused to provide a breath sample due to his lawyer telling him not to the last time he was in this situation. However, he advised that he drank two to three beers prior to getting into his vehicle with his 5-year-old daughter. He was headed to the Costco supermarket, the report said.
The Colorado native was arrested on charges of DUI and refusal to submit DUI testing. He was booked at Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
