A Davenport man was arrested for theft after attempting to bag $66.81 in merchandise without paying for it at Walmart in Clermont.

Surveillance cameras captured 20-year-old Alejandro Lopez Rodriguez at a self-checkout register in Walmart around 7:10 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

In the footage, he bypassed the scanner and put unpaid items in the bagging area. Some of the items in his shopping cart were never even removed to scan. He then passed the final point of sale with $66.81 in stolen merchandise, the report said.

Lopez Rodriguez was arrested on charge of retail theft and booked at the South District Lake County Jail. The native of Mexico was jailed on $500 bond.
