An Illinois woman was arrested after allegedly bypassing a self-checkout scanner for $96 worth of merchandise at Walmart.

A deputy responded to a theft involving 46-year-old Yasmin Sada at Walmart, 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

An asset protection employee advised that Sada was seen at a self-checkout register, where she bagged unscanned items. Surveillance footage showed she took a cereal cup, angled the bar code toward the scanner and held a more expensive item over the cup at the same time. This method bypassed the scanner and allowed her to steal 12 items worth $96.76, the report said.

A subsequent check of Sada’s criminal history revealed a felony theft charge out of her home state, the report said.

Sada was arrested on charge of retail theft and booked at the Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $500 bond.
