A Umatilla man was arrested on a drug charge when a deputy found meth in his back pocket.
A deputy observed 55-year-old William Charles Lane driving a green Ford utility vehicle without any taillights in Leesburg around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Due to this, he conducted a traffic stop at County Road 473 and Haines Creek Road.

When asked if there were any narcotics in the vehicle, Lane stated he did not do drugs. A K-9 unit subsequently responded to the traffic stop to check for narcotics. A positive alert established probable cause for the deputies to search the vehicle, the report said.
Lane then told to step out of the vehicle and denied having anything illegal on his person. He did not mind if a deputy checked, but he noticed a small clear baggie of methamphetamine in Lane’s left back pant pocket. A search of his vehicle yielded nothing, the report said.
He was arrested on charge of possession of methamphetamine. He was booked at Lake County Jail with bond set at $2,500.
