A Tavares man was arrested after driving drunk to pick up a juvenile and her mother from a traffic stop.

An officer met with 49-year-old Frank Richard Campbell on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Register Road at 1 a.m. Saturday, April 18, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. He had driven there in a 2017 Jeep SUV to pick up a female juvenile and her mother during a separate traffic stop.

While talking to Campbell, the officer noticed his eyes were bloodshot and watery, and his eyelids drooped. He weight shifted as he swayed while standing, and his breath smelled like alcohol when he spoke, the report said.

The juvenile had originally advised that her family was sleeping, so the officer asked Campbell if he had been woken up. He stated no, that he was coming from dinner at Ruby Street Grille in Tavares. He had “a few beers and a couple drinks” with dinner, the report said.

Campbell subsequently agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises, during which he continued to sway and lost his balance. He later provided breath samples of 0.097g/210L and 0.104g/210L of breath, the report said.

The Michigan native was arrested on charge of DUI and booked at Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
