
Lynne Murdie-Shoemaker, 85, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026 in Ocala, Florida
Lynne was born in New Rochelle, New York, to Elmer and Lillian Elsea on November 16, 1940. She went to East High School in Denver, Colorado and graduated in 1958. She went on to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in teaching from Colorado College and Michigan State University. She worked as an elementary school teacher for over 30 years.
Lynne enjoyed spending time in both Florida and Michigan with friends and family. Her home on Clark Lake has always been a place of so many good times and memories. Lynne loved to travel and had many interests and especially enjoyed her time supporting church activities at First Presbyterian Church of Leesburg, Florida.
Lynne is survived by her children, Bill (Amy) of Ocala Florida, Karie of Jackson Michigan, Kathy (Shawn) of Lake Orion Michigan, and Susan, and her partner Bob Glockler of Leesburg Florida. Lynne’s stepchildren Dianne DeNecochea of San Diego California, Gail Shoemaker of Jackson Michigan, and David (Bethany) Shoemaker. Lynne adored her twelve grandchildren Alanna, Parker and Brendan Murdie; Ben, Will and Kate Claypool; Avalon and Devon DeNecochea; Danielle (Aaron), Darcy and David Jr. Shoemaker. Lynne is preceded in death by her husband, Cam Murdie; husband Bill Shoemaker; her parents Elmer and Lillian Elsea, and two brothers Chris and Alden Elsea.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Leesburg, FL, at Lake Port Square on Sunday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. R.J. Leek of the First Presbyterian Church of Leesburg officiating. Another gathering of family and friends to celebrate Lynne’s life will also be held in Clark Lake, Michigan, later this summer.
