Charles Michael Mathis, passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born on May 12, 1945, Mickey lived a life defined by strength, loyalty, and unwavering dedication to his family and country. He proudly served as a United States Marine, receiving an honorable discharge, and carried that same sense of discipline and pride into his work as a skilled Boilermaker.
Mickey was the kind of man who didn’t have to say much to be felt. His presence was steady, his love was constant, and his impact ran deep. He found joy in the simple things—good food, good company, and a game on in the background. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved baseball and never missed a chance to watch a race.
Some of his favorite moments were spent at his go-to spots, enjoying meals and laughter at Fred’s Market Restaurant and Decisions Bar and Grill, where stories were shared and memories were made.
Above all, Mickey’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his children: Greg Mathis and his wife Stephanie, and their daughters Courtney, Brittany, and Christi; Michael Mathis and his son Gage Mathis, and Amber; Jerod Mathis and his wife Sarah Mathis, and their children Addison and Brantley; and Monica Mathis and her children Bristol and Dalahni.
He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, quiet strength, and deep-rooted love that will live on in each of them. The lessons he taught—through both words and actions—will continue to guide his family for generations to come.
Though he may be gone from our sight, Mickey’s presence will forever be felt in the roar of a race, the crack of a baseball bat, and in every moment his family gathers together—still held by the love he built.
