Lake County sheriff’s deputies and the Leesburg Police Department responded shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday to the area of 2415 Montclair Road in Leesburg in reference to a reported stabbing in which the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds, according to a 911 caller.

Upon arriving on scene, bystanders pointed out the direction Reed had fled on foot. A deputy located Reed and during the encounter, the deputy shot him. Reed was pronounced dead at ORMC.

The investigation into the deputy-involved shooting will be handled by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which is standard procedure. The deputy who fired his gun will be placed on administrative leave, which is also standard procedure. No law enforcement personnel were injured.

Reed has a long history of arrests.
