A Leesburg woman was arrested for allegedly biting her boyfriend several times when he tried to leave during an argument.

The boyfriend of 35-year-old Sylvia Hernandez asked to meet officers at the Leesburg Police Department around 2:20 a.m. Monday, April 6, according to an arrest report. He wanted to discuss a domestic battery involving Hernandez that happened the night before.

He explained that she began to argue with him after returning home from a family function. When he tried to leave, she took his phone and followed him around outside. She then threw the phone at him, missed and punched him on the back, the report said.

She proceeded to follow the boyfriend to his vehicle, where she wrapped herself around his lower leg and bit his inner thigh. He sustained a bite mark just above his knee. She also grabbed his right arm and bit him two more times on the wrist, leaving more marks, the report said.

Hernandez next sat in the driver’s seat of his vehicle to prevent him from leaving. After some time, she went back into their home and fell asleep. This was when the boyfriend left to meet with the police, the report said.

Additionally, the boyfriend filled out a domestic violence lethality assessment that determined he was in a potentially lethal situation based on his score. He marked “yes” to questions asking if Hernandez had ever threatened him with a weapon or tried to choke him, the report said.

The report noted that the boyfriend and Hernandez have a three-month-old daughter in common who lived with them, along with Hernandez’s 15- and 12-year-old daughters. The children were home at the time, but they did not see the incident.

Hernandez was subsequently arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic) and booked at the Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.

She was also arrested in Aug. 2023 when she was found heavily intoxicated and in need of medical attention after winding up in a ditch.
