A Leesburg woman was arrested on drug charges for narcotics and paraphernalia found during a traffic stop.
A deputy saw a U-Haul truck run a stop sign while turning from Willow Drive onto South Street in Leesburg around 3:25 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. As the deputy initiated a traffic stop, the driver, 36-year-old Katie Rene Oakley, made fervent movements while deciding to stop.

She ultimately pulled over in the middle of South Street, where she was unable to hand over a driver’s license. She denied there being anything illegal in the vehicle and consented to a search. After she stepped out of the vehicle, the deputy found a plastic straw and a wad of money clenched in her left hand, the report said.
The deputy proceeded to search the U-Haul, discovering two cloth purses on the right side of the driver’s seat. One of them contained a coin pouch with methamphetamine, while the other had a baggie of cocaine and two more baggies of methamphetamine. There was also a black fanny pack with a black digital scale and white residue, the report said.
Oakley subsequently admitted the purses were hers. She also knew what was in the baggies but claimed they did not belong to her, the report said.
The Michigan native was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was issued a citation for the stop sign violation, as well. She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $6,000 bond.
Oakley was also arrested in April 2022 after leaving a known drug house in Eustis with fentanyl.
