A Winter Garden man was arrested in a U-Haul truck that he failed to return.

An officer got an alert about a stolen U-Haul box truck headed north on 14th Street around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The vehicle had been stolen out of Orange County on March 18, with 25-year-old Roberto Hung Bastidas listed as the suspect.

While in the area of 14th Street, the officer spotted the box truck in the northbound lane. He confirmed it was the stolen vehicle before pulling it over at a residence on Sterns Drive at Overlook at Lake Griffin. Hung Bastidas was subsequently detained without incident, the report said.

He advised that he was working for his business and did not have time to return the U-Haul truck. He did not know it would be considered stolen despite having signed a lease agreement telling him so, the report said.

Hung Bastidas was arrested on charge of theft (fail to redeliver hired/rented vehicle). He was booked at Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.
