A Leesburg man was arrested for assault after allegedly firing two shots during an altercation with his wife and a tow truck driver.
A deputy responded to the Lisbon Church of God, located at 10509 Goose Prairie Rd., Leesburg, regarding a verbal altercation with a deadly weapon at the home of 55-year-old Robert Jason Mumford around 2:25 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Mumford’s wife advised that he had left her at a bar earlier that night, and a tow truck driver offered to bring her home. When they got there, Mumford came out and fired two shots at them. He has a history of domestic violence, and she predicted he would assault her when she returned home, the report said.
She added that he is a convicted felon and should not have firearms. When asked what she would like to do about the situation, she stated she did not care anymore, the report said.
The tow truck driver corroborated the wife’s account, describing how Mumford came down the steps holding a firearm pointed at the ground. He fired one round into the ground without saying anything before approaching the driver’s side of the truck. He then tried to open the locked door, stepped back and pointed the weapon directly at the driver’s face through the window, the report said.
Mumford told the driver to leave, and as he backed up, he heard a second gunshot. The driver turned to see the firearm pointed at his vehicle. He described the gun as a silver break-barrel Derringer, seemingly a two-shot model, the report said.
The North Carolina native was subsequently arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, improper discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (domestic) and improper discharge of a firearm (domestic). He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $60,000 bond.
