A motorcyclist has died in a fiery crash on State Road 44 in Lake County.
The 39-year-old Tavares man was riding a 2023 Indian Roadmaster shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday on State Road 44 east of Huff Road at the Seminole State Forest and traveling in the eastbound lane when a 2008 Ford F-650 traveling in the opposite direction drifted into the motorcycle’s lane of travel and struck it head on, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Upon impact, the motorcycle became engulfed in flames.
The motorcyclist was knocked from the bike and partially landed on a 2017 Toyota Highlander driven by a 63-year-old Apopka woman who had been traveling behind the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford F-650 truck was seriously injured and transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital.
The woman driving the Toyota Highlander was not injured.
