A Leesburg woman was arrested on a drunk driving charge after crashing her vehicle near a church and admitting to having “a few beers.”
Officers responded to the area of the Carver Heights Church of Christ, 901 Beecher St., for a vehicle crash around 1:35 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Once there, they suspended the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, identified as 40-year-old Passion Janie Reed, to be under the influence.

While speaking with her in the driver’s seat, her breath smelled of alcohol. Her speech was slurred when she tried to answer questions, and her eyes were bloodshot and watery. She subsequently agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises, the report said.
The officers watched as Reed walked over to do the exercises, seeing how unsteady she seemed to be on her feet. She continued to be unsteady and swayed while they began to instruct her. She poorly performed one exercise before refusing to do any more because she was clumsy, the report said.
Reed later provided breath samples resulting in 0.255g/210L and 0.269g/210L. She also made several statements about feeling good but not being drunk. She stated she “only had a few beers,” and she was just “tipsy,” the report said.
She was arrested on charge of DUI (accident/property damage or minor injury) and transported to Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $2,000 bond.
