A Leesburg man was arrested after allegedly strangling his mother’s husband at their daughter’s birthday party.

Officers responded to a battery involving 23-year-old Kamrin Vincent Evans at an undisclosed Leesburg residence at 11:10 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. His mother stated he was battering her husband, and dispatchers heard a male voice say, “I’m gonna kill him before the cops get here.”

By the time law enforcement arrived, Evans and the husband were gone. The mother was still there to say they were all gathered at the house to celebrate her daughter’s birthday. During the party, the husband asked Evans to stop bothering his daughters, and Evans went to his bedroom, the report said.

But shortly after this, the husband went to the bedroom where a physical altercation broke out between him and Evans. It continued through the kitchen, down the hall and into the mother’s bedroom where it ended. The mother called the police during the fight because she believed Evans was suffering from and going through a mental health crisis, the report said.

She explained Evans had mental health issues and believed he was not taking his medication. She added he had shown odd behavior in the past and recently, leading her to think his condition was getting worse. He also had a difficult relationship with the husband, who did not tolerate perceived disrespect or insulate behavior from Evans, and the tension between them was escalating, the report said.

Evans could be easily triggered, and the incident that day was no exception. The husband had confronted him about his attitude, which may have set him off to the point of a physical altercation. The mother was very discombobulated, appearing distraught and unable to give basic information when telling this to law enforcement later, the report said.

She did not know where Evans and her husband had gone, but she believed they were going to finish the fight that had started in the residence. She eventually gave a description of Evans which was given to officers to help find him, the report said.

Meanwhile, the husband returned with large, swollen “goose-egg” lumps on his face and forehead. He also had a split and swollen lip, the report said.

The husband advised that when he went to Evans’ room to talk about his behavior, Evans started attacking him. Evans put him in a chokehold and began “smothering” him. He tried to defend himself and fought back as best he could, but due to having spinal issues that cause temporary paralysis and severely weakens his strength, he could not escape the chokehold, the report said.

Once Evans had worn him out from difficulty breathing, Evans got on top of the husband to punch his head and face. The husband was able to separate himself, and Evans left the residence. He left, as well, the report said.

Officers ultimately found Evans at Dollar General, located at 3356 E Main St., where they determined he was cognizant, lucid and aware of what was happening. He had scuff marks on his forehead and the right side of his face, as well as some small cuts on his hands. But he stated nothing happened when asked about the incident, the report said.

Evans was arrested on charge of battery by strangulation and transported to Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $1,500.
