Stretches of U.S. Highway 27 in Leesburg are down to one lane leading up to Christmas Eve, as state crews work to resurface the roadway.
Daytime closures are currently in effect on Monday and Tuesday of this week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day along U.S. Hwy 27, from State Road 33 to Middlesex Road in Leesburg.
During that time, contractors will be paving turning lanes and working on shoulder improvements.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation, which is managing the project, crews hope to avoid lane closures northbound in the mornings and southbound in the afternoons during rush hour periods.

“FDOT encourages all roadway users to drive, walk, and ride with caution and courtesy,” reads a statement from the state agency.
The changes are part of FDOT project 448769-1, which calls for the resurfacing of U.S. 27 (State Road (S.R.) 25) from County Road (C.R.) 33 to Middlesex Road to extend the life of the existing roadway.
In addition to repaving the corridor, other operational and safety enhancements include adding a southbound right turn lane to C.R. 25A near the Lake County Emergency Medical Services Support Facility. The plan also called for the removal of the “Y intersection” on the west side U.S. 27 to C.R. 25A. Its removal was conducted to enhance safety and improve the connection at C.R. 25A, across from Saxon Road, according to the state.
