A new Aldi grocery store has officially opened its doors in Leesburg.
The grocery store welcomed customers to its location at 27405 U.S. 27 in the Lake Harris Square Shopping Center during a grand opening ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 11.
The new store features Aldi’s typical layout, which emphasizes fresh produce, organic options, and exclusive private-label brands.
To mark the opening of the new store, the first 100 customers received a “Golden Ticket” worth up to $100 and a bag of Aldi products.
Shoppers visiting the new location through Sunday, Dec. 14, can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 Aldi gift card by scanning codes inside the store.
Staff at the store reported that customers have been lining up outside of the store each day in the minutes leading up to opening, which is at 9 a.m.
The store is now open for regular business hours, operating daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Shoppers are reminded to bring their own bags and a quarter to unlock a shopping cart.
This is the second Aldi location in Leesburg, joining the store on North Citrus Boulevard. Its opening comes after several months of delays.
The new supermarket occupies the space of a former Winn-Dixie, which closed earlier this year.
The Lake Harris Square store will be the second Winn-Dixie to reopen as an ALDI in the area as the Winn-Dixie located at Lake Sumter Landing in the Villages was remodeled and reopened as an ALDI store on July 10.
ALDI is a German company which has emphasized low cost store brand products. The company was founded in 1946 when two brothers took over their mother’s store. There are more than 2,560 stores in the United Sates with 264 stores in Florida.
