A Davenport woman was arrested for theft after failing to scan several pieces of children’s clothing at a self-checkout register in Walmart.

A deputy responded to Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, regarding retail theft at 7 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. An asset protection associate had seen 32-year-old Neysha Jasmin Marin De Jesus failing to scan multiple items of children’s clothing at a self-checkout register.

As the associate monitored the sales floor, he saw Marin De Jesus fold clothes into each other, scan only one barcode and put the handful of clothes in her shopping cart. She then finished her transaction while only paying for what she scanned. Asset protection stopped her as she left through the general merchandise doors, and she returned all eight stolen items valued at $35.84, the report said.

Marin De Jesus was arrested on charge of petit retail theft and transported to Lake County Jail. The Pennsylvania native was released after posting $500 bond.
