A Leesburg man was arrested for theft after failing to return a $22,985 vehicle to Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

An officer responded to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, located at 1725 Mount Vernon Rd., due to 58-year-old Daniel Robert Michalowski failing to return a vehicle at 12:45 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Upon arrival, the complainant advised that Michalowski came to the rental agency for a car on June 6 and signed a contract to bring it back on Aug. 7. Staff called him on Aug. 10 and explained the policy for failure to redeliver property. He was told that he would be charged if he did not promptly return the vehicle, the report said.

Enterprise staff gave Michalowski a final notice by certified mail on Aug. 20 to return the vehicle. He did not respond to this notice by returning the vehicle. As such, he was responsible for the theft of a $22, 985 vehicle, the report said.

Michalowski was arrested that evening at 2211 Harlem Ave., Eustis, on charge of theft (fail to return hired/leased property). He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $2,500.
