A New York woman was arrested for theft after skip-scanning at a self-checkout and using an Uber to flee from Walmart.
Security cameras at Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, caught 24-year-old Destini Roberts using a self-checkout register around 1 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

She took out two water items and a bag of frozen chicken from her cart to scan, but she did not scan the chicken. The camera also showed her scan two towels, put them on top of the scanner and put two more beach towels on top of the scanned towels. She then bagged them all together, the report said.
Roberts repeatedly skip-scanned other things during the checkout process. Once finished, she left the store without paying for them. She ignored loss prevention’s commands and got into a red Tesla Uber to flee the area, the report said.
Deputies managed to stop the Uber while still in the parking lot of Walmart. The driver returned to the store where loss prevention recovered $127.06 in stolen merchandise, the report said.
Roberts was arrested on charges of petit retail theft and resisting a merchant. She was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,500 bond.
