A homeless man in Leesburg was arrested on drug charges when an officer found fentanyl and pills in his possession.

A deputy stopped a red 2001 Ford pickup truck for a nonworking registration tag light near County Road 473 and Poe Street in Leesburg around 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The driver and the passenger, 46-year-old Kevin Hutcheson, were asked to step out so he could search the vehicle.

While doing so, the deputy found a black scale with white powdery residue in the front glove compartment where Hutcheson was sitting. He then searched Hutcheson’s pockets and discovered a clear baggie with purple and blue tinted powder. It weighed 1.07 grams, and the deputy believed it to be fentanyl, the report said.

He later asked Hutcheson if it was fentanyl and was told it could be, but he was not sure. In the same pocket as the powdery substance was another clear baggie with 16 tablets of clonazepam, or Klonopin, the report said.

Hutcheson was arrested and charged with possession of fentanyl and clonazepam. He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $5,000 bond.
