A man from Chile was arrested for theft after allegedly attempting to steal nearly $200 worth of steaks at Walmart.

A deputy responded to Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. An asset protection associate had been monitoring 37-year-old Luis Eduardo Arancibia Espinoza for retail theft.

Upon arrival, the associate told the deputy that Arancibia Espinoza had been walking around the store with a basket full of wagyu and ribeye steaks. They watched him through security cameras as he walked to the back of the store toward the toy aisle. He then stuffed a small black sling backpack he had brought into the store with him, the report said.

He proceeded toward the store’s exit, passing the last point of sale and walking outside. The associate identified themself and escorted him to the loss prevention office. He cooperated and returned seven items worth $188.71 to the store, the report said.

Arancibia Espinoza was arrested on charge of retail theft. The native of Chile was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
