
John Carter Moore, known to family and friends as Carter, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, at the age of 79.
He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 17, 1945, to the late John Dennis Moore and Mary Hanley Moore. Carter was a proud graduate of Florida State University College of Law and dedicated 54 years to his career as an attorney. He was respected for his sharp mind, professionalism, and steady presence in the legal community.
Outside of work, Carter was passionate about gardening, sailing, and spending meaningful time with those he loved. He was a constant and caring presence in the lives of his family, and his quiet strength and sense of humor will be deeply missed.
Carter is survived by his sister, Mary Michael Crum; his brother-in-law, James C. Crum Sr.; his nieces, Kelly Crum and Britt Ryder, her husband Rick Ryder; his nephew, Clay Crum, his wife Christen Brady Crum; and his three great-nieces and three great-nephews.
He will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A gathering will be held to celebrate Carter’s life at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Leesburg, FL on April 12th at 1 p.m.
