Florence Ann Babcock

Dr. Florence Ann Babcock, born on September 3, 1958, in Seattle, Washington, to Joan and Dayton Babcock, departed this life to be with her creator on March 16, 2025.

She was at home surrounded by her devoted family after courageously battling brain cancer.
Florie was an active member of Linden Chapel and had a very strong faith and love of Jesus Christ. She enjoyed reading, gardening, the beach, cruises, flea marketing and most importantly, spending time with family, friends, and her beloved dogs.

Florie was a dedicated educator who graduated with both a Bachelors and Masters degree from Florida Technological University (UCF) before obtaining a Specialist degree, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Florida. Her commitment to teaching profoundly impacted many lives throughout her career, which included teaching positions at Webster Elementary and Florida Southern College, as well as serving as the Curriculum Coordinator for Polk County’s preschool program, from which she recently retired.

Florie was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Mae Babcock. She is survived by her loving husband of over 32 years, Douglas Latta; her son, Dayton Alexander (Alex) Babcock-Latta (Kelly); her father, Dayton W. Babcock; her brother, Dayton A. Babcock (Debra); and her sister, Terri Babcock Jackson (Robert).

Though Florie’s physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those she touched. May her memory serve as a blessing, and may we honor her legacy of learning and compassion in all our endeavors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to a favorite charity in the form of books, as reading and fostering literacy were among her greatest passions.
