The official groundbreaking ceremony for Leesburg’s Susan Street Recreation Complex Redevelopment Project has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at 940 Susan St.
The project entails a complete renovation and rebuild of the existing complex. When finished, the 26-acre facility will feature six multi-purpose fields designed to accommodate all rectangular sports.

Amenities include:
- Four grass fields with Musco lighting, field goal posts, scoreboards and bleachers
- One auxiliary grass field
- One state of the art Championship Field with an artificial surface
- Locker rooms, concessions and restrooms

Four of the fields will include lighting, field goal posts, scoreboards and bleachers.
The redevelopment of this site will allow the city to continue its support of local youth leagues and activities along with promoting economic growth by having a premier destination to attract sports tourism events. The fields will support football, rugby, soccer and lacrosse.

The project has been made possible through funding from the Lake County TDC, a Legislative Priority Grant and the American Recovery Act. City contributions are derived from Recreation Impact Fees and the Carver Heights/Montclair and 441/27 CRA’s. The investment in the community totals $10.5 million.
The complex was designed by Halff and will be built by Kingdom Construction with an anticipated opening in January 2026.
