Jean Elizabeth Carver Ryder, daughter of the late James and Mary Carver, passed away on Tuesday March 4, 2025 which was 2 days shy of her 87th birthday.

Jean was born on March 6, 1939 and raised in Berwyn Pennsylvania where she graduated from Conestoga High School in 1958. After graduating from High School, she attended nurses training for 2 years before leaving that dream behind in favor of settling down with her first husband Douglas Myers. They married and shortly thereafter built a house in East Goshen Pennsylvania where she lived for many years with an unwavering commitment to raising her 3 daughters.

Following a difficult divorce and transition from her first husband, she eventually met H. Erwin Ryder, a man of integrity, whom she married and he helped to provide to a solid foundation to both her and her daughters.

Jean worked at Norcross in West Chester for many years and eventually retired from Eagles Eye in Conshohocken. She and Erv relocated to Pembroke Fairways in Leesburg Florida upon her retirement. They enjoyed many happy years there until Erv passed away in 2002.

Shortly after Erv’s passing Jean relocated to Japanese Gardens in Venice Florida where she resided for 20+ years. Jean was an avid Gardner during her time in Japanese Gardens having received great praise and appreciation from her friends and neighbors that lived there as demonstrated by a plaque titled “Jean’s Garden” that resides there in perpetuity. She also enjoyed billiards, bingo, and was in the pool every morning for water aerobics. She helped her many snowbird friends by taking care of their gardens and checking the interior of their homes while they were away for the season.

She spent the last 6 months of her life in Venetian Gardens where she quickly met many wonderful friends and enjoyed doing crafts. Her favorite saying was “One day at a time.”

Jean was a very caring and generous person who donated to numerous charities as well as to her church Trinity Presbyterian Church in Venice. In her last few years, she switched churches to South Venice Baptist Church which she attended and sang in the choir regularly.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband H. Erwin Ryder – 2002, brother James Richard Carver – 2002, and her oldest daughter Sherri Elliot – 2011.
