It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Henry Hay, who died peacefully on March 12, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born in Portland, Maine on May 14, 1934, Charles moved to Florida at age 13. He graduated from the University of Florida and from there went to seminary at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN where earned an M.Div. Degree. He was ordained to the Priesthood at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winter Haven. He also served at St. Edward’s in Mount Dora and All Saints’ in Winter Park. In 1964 he married Dorothy Herlong.

They moved to the Diocese of Georgia where Charles served churches in Americus, Thomasville and Jesup. His last position was as Director of the Georgia Episcopal Camp and Conference Center on the Georgia coast. He retired in 1998 and he and Dorothy moved to her childhood home in Leesburg, Florida. He led a life full of love, dedication, and service to his Church and his Lord. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather

Charles was passionate about his ministry and those he served. His commitment to his Lord and to his family were foremost in his heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He used to say he loved the beach except for the sun, the sand and the water.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy, his children Cam, Laurie (Chris) and Paul (Lona); His grandchildren Justin, (Abby and great granddaughter, Judith Marie), Kevin (Jess), Charlie and James.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, FL or the Georgia Episcopal Camp and Conference Center in Waverly, GA.

Charles’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
