An officer observed the driver of a white 2012 Land Rover, later identified as 45-year-old Jose Diaz, traveling eastbound on Griffin Road around 7:40 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The vehicle stopped at the intersection with North 14th Street, at which time the right and upper “third” brake lights were not working. The left brake light was broken and casting an amber light as opposed to a red stop light.

Upon seeing this, the officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke to Diaz. He explained the reason for the stop before asking for his driver’s license. Diaz was only able to provide a Texas identification card, the report said.

Diaz advised that he did not have a driver’s license. Dispatch then confirmed he only had an ID card, the report said.

Diaz was arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license and issued a written warning for the defective brake light. He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
