A Leesburg man was arrested for DUI after almost hitting a deputy when he tried to warn him about his high beams being on.
A deputy observed the driver of a white Chevy pickup truck, later identified as 28-year-old Anthony Michael Henshaw, traveling with his bright lights on east County Road 44 around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy tried to flash the truck to indicate he should turn the high beams off. However, this action caused the truck to swerve over the median, almost hitting the deputy.

A traffic stop on the truck was initiated as a result. Upon approaching the driver’s side window, the deputy identified Henshaw using his driver’s license. A strong odor of alcohol was immediately detected coming from the vehicle’s interior, the report said.
Henshaw’s speeched slurred, and his eyes appeared bloodshot and watery. He was instructed to step out of the vehicle for field sobriety exercises. However, he showed signs of impairment during each assessment, including not listening to instructions, starting early and not counting correctly. He later took a breath test which registered a blood alcohol level of 0.240%, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08%, the report said.
Henshaw was arrested on charge of DUI and transported to Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $2,500 bond.
