A Fruitland Park woman was arrested after giving a Door Dasher a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for a pizza delivery.

A deputy responded to a potential fraud complaint at Lake Unity Road and Eagles Nest Road at 10:36 p.m. Jan. 31, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, the deputy met with the victim who advised he works for Door Dash, a food delivery service. He got an order through the employee app requesting a pizza delivery to 36822 Haynes Road, Fruitland Park. The app showed 36-year-old Frances Lee Daniels had placed the order, the report said.
In the extra notes section, it was requested the victim deliver to the “BK,” which he understood as the back door, and to bring change because the pizza was not yet paid for. The victim explained people ordering pizza have the ability to pay their Door Dash delivery driver when they get there. Door Dash took the money out of his employee account, and the customer who ordered them paid him, the report said.
The victim arrived at the residence and texted the phone number associated with the order. He learned that was the wrong phone number, and the person who texted back did not place an order. He then went to the back side of the residence and met with Daniels, the report said.
Daniels gave the victim a $100 bill, and he gave her back $70 in change. The pizza cost $27 with $3 added for tip. After leaving the residence, he realized the $100 bill appeared to be fake, the report said.
The victim gave the deputy the $100 bill, which did not have any watermarks or holograms on it. It had scissor marks along the edges and appeared to be printed crooked. The president’s label was also not raised as an authentic $100 would be, the report said.
At the time of the deputy meeting with the victim, Door Dash had not yet taken the $27 out of his account. He was told to contact them in hopes of rectifying the issue before they did, the report said.
The deputy then responded to 36822 Haynes Rd., Fruitland Park, and met with several unidentified people in the yard who advised that Daniels was at the residence. She eventually came outside to speak with the deputy, the report said.
Daniels stated she was unaware the $100 bill she gave to the victim was counterfeit. She worked for a cleaning company and was frequently paid in cash. She was initially unsure of who would have given her a fake bill, but she later stated that a “Ms. Davis” gave it to her. She did not provide any further information on this person. However, she did give the $70 in change back to the victim, the report said.
The Oklahoma native was arrested on charges of uttering forged bills, checks, drafts or notes, and petit theft (less than $100). She was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $3,500.
