
The family of Robert Lamar Bush of Fruitland Park, Florida, formerly of Laurens County, Georgia, is saddened to announce his passing on December 21st, 2024, surrounded by his family at home. He had been homebound with hospice care with Parkinson’s disease.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Lamar Bush, and mother, Ruby Mae Hester Bush, of Laurens County, Georgia; sisters Carol Bush Tanner and Ann Bush Higgs; brothers-in-laws Marvin Tanner, Greene Higgs, and Bill Garrett; and nephews Tim Shepherd and Robert Garrett.
Bobby was born in Laurens County, Georgia, on November 22nd, 1936. He grew up in the Minter Community, where he graduated from Wilkes High School and played on the basketball and baseball teams. Bobby loved fishing, hunting, sports, and spending quality time with his family, whom he loved to speak about and share his wonderful memories of growing up in the Minter and Rockledge communities. His favorite times were watching his grandsons enjoy fishing and playing around his farm.
In the early 1970s, Bobby opened the first Toyota Dealership on Merritt Island, Florida. He was the Vice President and General Manager of West Toyota on Merritt Island and Empire Pontiac Center in Cocoa, Florida. Bobby retired from Delta Life Insurance Company after a forty-year career. When he retired, he was District Manager of the Dublin, Georgia, districts and had previously served as District Manager of the Brunswick and Albany, Georgia, districts.
Bobby was active in the community and church wherever he resided. He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, Minter Baptist Church in Laurens County, Georgia, and First Baptist Church in Dublin, Georgia. Bobby was the former President of the Minter/Rockledge Neighborhood Watch. He was also a member of the General Society Sons of the Revolution and the National Society Sons of the American Revolution.
Bobby leaves behind his wife of sixty-five years, Patricia Harrell Bush; son, Mitchell Bush (Leslie Burkett); daughter, Marsheila Bush-Rhodes (Paul Rhodes); and his three grandsons, Wesley Bush (Jolly Cosmiano), Brandon Rhodes (Courtney Metts), and Alexander Rhodes; one great-grandson, Wesley Bush, Jr.; and two expected great-grandchildren; siblings: sister Faye Bush Shepherd, and brother, Charlie Bush(JoAnn Pullen), and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Harrell Garrett, and his nieces and nephews; Scotty Garrett, Jennifer Garrett Price, Len Tanner, Mike Tanner, Greg Higgs, Teresa Higgs-Johnson, Terry Shepherd, Sandra Shepherd Crawford, Sean Bush, and Chuck Bush.
