The retirement community is proud to highlight one of its team members, Hanna Williamson, and her initiative to provide a creative outlet for residents by volunteering to teach art classes at the community.

Williamson volunteers twice a month on her days off to teach art classes for residents at Lake Port Square, located at 821 Lake Port Boulevard in Leesburg. Each month, the content of the painting class changes based on holidays or seasons, with residents actively involved in giving their input for themes.

Williamson, who has been a Lake Port Square employee for two years, recognized the need for a creative outlet to work through her own personal struggles.

“I realized a few years ago that I needed an outlet for my anxiety, and I found that painting was my outlet,” said Williamson. “I wanted to give our residents an outlet that they could turn to if they had mental health issues to give them happiness.”

Through her art classes, Williamson is not only providing a platform for residents to express themselves creatively, but also empowering them to take control of their mental wellness journey. Her favorite thing about volunteering is the joy she sees in the residents who participate.

“Hanna’s dedication to our residents’ well-being is truly inspiring,” said Lake Port Square Executive Director Walt Stroly. “Her art classes have become a highlight for our residents, as many of them talk about how much they enjoy and look forward to them. We are grateful for Hanna’s commitment to enhancing their quality of life.”
