In April 2021, Lake County Sheriff’s Office detectives with the Sex Offender Squad received a tip from the Orlando Police Department regarding 62-year-old registered sex offender Perry Gentry. Lake County detectives investigated the tip and determined that Gentry failed to report information, violating his sex offender registration requirements.

Detectives issued an arrest warrant for the violation, and Gentry’s cellular phone was seized at the time of his arrest. This arrest resulted in Gentry being sentenced to the Department of Corrections. Detectives issued a search warrant on Gentry’s cellular phone, which revealed child sexual abuse material.

According to court documents, Gentry had created a video recording using an internal camera security system in his home. This video depicts Gentry exposing the genitalia of a 13-year-old boy in view of a camera found in Gentry’s bedroom aimed at his bed. He then uploaded a copy of the video to his cellphone. Agents with the Department of Homeland Security were later able to identify the child.

Agents with Homeland Security Investigations subsequently executed a federal search warrant with the assistance of Lake County detectives at Gentry’s residence in Sorrento. The search warrant revealed information identifying nine juvenile victims. The juveniles were located and interviewed, and three juveniles disclosed sexual abuse by Gentry.

Detectives also discovered additional violations, resulting in another arrest warrant. Once Gentry completed his DOC sentence for the initial sex offender violation, he was transported to the Lake County Jail to face the charges resulting from the residential search warrant.

Gentry entered a plea agreement on May 30, 2024, for two counts of lewd and lascivious battery and five counts of lewd and lascivious molestation, prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Cosden. Gentry pleaded no contest to a 25-year sentence that he will spend in DOC and lifetime sex offender probation.
