Deputies responded to a burglary in progress at an undisclosed Clermont residence around 11:04 a.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The complainant stated that an unknown male, later identified as 21-year-old Nicholas Julian Roopchand, had entered the residence without permission or invitation.

Roopchand had entered the victim’s residence through a rear sliding glass door while she was in her shower. He then took off his shirt in the kitchen area and went into the victim’s bedroom where she was using her shower. He came into the bathroom with his penis already exposed from his shorts and began to masturbate, the report said.

When the victim saw Roopchand, she screamed and tried to flee the bathroom with a towel, but she slipped on the tile floor due to it being wet from the shower. Once she was on her back on the ground, Roopchand got on top of her after pulling his shorts further down and attempted to pin her to the floor. She was able to fight him off and flee the bathroom, believing he was going to sexually batter her if she did not get him off her, the report said.

Roopchand was taken into custody on charges of burglary with battery and sexual battery on person over 18 (attempted). He was transported to Lake County Jail to be held without bond.
