A Clermont woman was arrested for battery when an argument with her sister over their father’s wellbeing turned physical.
A deputy responded to an argument in progress between two people at an undisclosed Clermont residence around 9:12 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, the deputy met with 52-year-old Michelle Marie Cortes Porrata. She stated that she had gotten into an argument with her sister and pushed her around the throat area. They continued to fight after the initial shove, the report said.
Porrata further advised that the argument started over taking care of their father who had just recently been diagnosed with dementia. They argued in the living room “like teenagers,” fighting on the ground with hair pulling and scratching. Indeed, she sustained scratches on her right forearm, the report said.
The deputy then spoke with the victim who advised that the argument took place near the bathroom at the entrance of the residence. She stated that she pushed Porrata, and the argument continued in the living room. However, Porrata stated there was never an incident near the bathroom because she was bathing at the time, the report said.
The victim was back and forth in her statements. She did advise that Porrata pushed her in the living room just before the fighting. Porrata was ultimately determined to be the primary aggressor after conducting extensive interviews, the report said.
The native of Puerto Rico was arrested and charged with simple battery (domestic). She was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $1,000.
