A man who hid from law enforcement while trespassing at a prominent office building in Leesburg was found to be in possession of several narcotics after his arrest.
An officer performing a security check at 1300 Citizens Boulevard observed a man trying to hide himself out of sight around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. This individual was stopped and identified through his ID as 52-year-old Marcus Antoine Upshaw of Leesburg.Â
Using the given information, the officer ran a criminal history check and learned Upshaw had been trespassed from the area on the morning of Feb. 29. As a result, he was placed in hand restraints and put under arrest, the report said.Â
Upshaw was subsequently searched, during which the officer found an open cigar-style wrap package that contained less than one gram of a green leafy substance in his front pocket. Experience in law enforcement and as a correctional officer led to the conclusion that the substance was marijuana, the report said.Â
Also in the front pocket were what appeared to be four burnt prewrapped cigarettes. A small portion of tobacco substance was tested but came back positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl. The mixture was packaged and weighed about one gram bagged, the report said.Â
Another cigar-style wrap package was located in Upshaw’s left back pocket. Inside was a white powdery substance, a small portion of which was tested. The results were positive for methamphetamine, and it weighed about one gram packaged, the report said.Â
Upshaw was charged with trespass (after warning) and possession of methamphetamine, marijuana (less than 20 grams) and fentanyl. He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $7,000.Â
