Lake County man driving pickup strikes and kills 72-year-old pedestrian

A 72-year-old pedestrian was struck and fatally injured by a Eustis man driving a pickup truck early Wednesday morning in Seminole County.

According to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the 34-year-old driver of a 2002 Toyota Tundra was traveling at about 6:30 a.m. southbound in the outside lane of U.S. Hwy. 17-92. As the driver approached Spartan Loop, a pedestrian was passing through the crosswalk at the intersection of Spartan Drive. A witness advised that the driver had a green traffic light.

The pedestrian then walked in the direct path of the driver. As a result, the front of the pickup struck the pedestrian. He was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The driver, who did not suffer any injuries, remained on-scene. The crash is still under investigation, the report said.
