July 17, 1930 – February 10, 2024

David Elmore Wilson, 93, formerly of Newark, Ohio passed away suddenly at his home in Tavares, Saturday, February 10, 2024.

Dave was born July 17, 1930 in Newark Ohio to the late Harold E. and Helen M. (Lindsey) Wilson. Dave and Gerry (Overstreet) were married April 2, 1949; they relocated to Tavares in 2004.

Gerry predeceased Dave November 27, 2005. His sisters, Maxine (Rudy) Matz, Virginia Weiss, Barbara (Floyd) Beckman and his brother, Robert Wilson predecease him. Survivors include his daughters, Deborah J. (Frank) Jackson and Sandra K. Ritchie of Tavares, Florida; his grandchildren Chad M. (Jacqueline) Ritchie of St. Louis, MO and Heather N. (Michael) Current of Lexington, SC as well as great-grandchildren, Theodore and Oliver Ritchie and Evelyn and Cooper Current as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Dave was a graduate of Newark High School. He joined the Navy July 12, 1948. Following his service he worked at Anchor Loan and eventually Prudential Insurance Agency from which he retired. His many sales awards provided the opportunity for endless road trips for the family around the United States. We have been “lost” in Tijuana, Mexico, nearly “drowned” in the Detroit River, wined and dined in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and lazed on Lake Cumberland. So many wonderful memories ~ so many wonderful times!

Dave never met a stranger – he had the uncanny ability to remember your name. He was an avid golfer; he belonged to the Newark Männerchor, Newark, Ohio, AMVETS Post 1992, Mt. Dora, FL and was a Life Member of the Eustis, FL Elks Lodge #1578. He was a nature lover and was known to befriend any animal that came to his door. Later in life, he enjoyed the blue birds that would come to his feeders and bird houses and all of the wildlife that provided him entertainment as he overlooked a lagoon from his home in Florida. A plethora of pets were welcomed including two great hounds, each named Sam, a Great Dane named Blinder a wild woodpecker named Woody, numerous parakeets, cats, and guinea pigs.

Many memorable weekends were spent on Lake Erie or Buckeye Lake or at the cabin in Hocking Hills or at “Asparagus Links” his very own 9-hole golf course in Newark, Ohio.

Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Ohio at a later date with a Memorial Service to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Dave’s memory to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778 or The Newark Männerchor, Post Office Box 264, Newark, OH 43058-0264.
