Man wanted for drug related case stopped with narcotics in pocket

An Ocklawaha man, arrested last year with drugs hidden in his anus, is in trouble again.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a green 2008 Toyota Tundra, later identified as 35-year-old Stephen Edward Mattingly, at the intersection of Southeast 207th Court and Southeast Highway 42 around 12:45 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before the stop, Mattingly was identified and known to have an active warrant for his arrest out of Lake County to revoke his bond in a case involving fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, the report said.

The deputy successfully stopped Mattingly, ordered him to exit the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs. His information was provided by dispatch who confirmed the warrant for his arrest. He was then placed under arrest and searched prior to being placed in the back of the patrol car, the report said.

In Mattingly’s right pant pocket, the deputy found a small clear plastic bag which contained a blue powder substance. Before testing it, Mattingly said to be careful with “that,” although he later did not wish to speak with law enforcement. The substance ultimately tested positive for fentanyl, the report said.

Mattingly was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (fentanyl) and transported to the Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $2,500.

He was also jailed in July 2023 after pulling drugs out of his anus during a traffic stop.
