Leesburg man was pronounced dead after walking in front of a car and being struck Friday night on County Road 44.

The 47-year-old man at 9:21 p.m. was walking southbound on County Road 44, west of Rhett Road, and was not in a marked crosswalk when he “failed to yield” to a 2019 Chrysler 300 driven by a 37-year-old Leesburg man, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The vehicle had been eastbound on County Road 44.

The front of the car hit the man who was in the roadway. EMS personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement. He and a 38-year-old female passenger, also from Leesburg, were not injured.

The fatality remains under investigation.
