A Leesburg woman was arrested on a charge of battery after an argument over laundry escalated into a physical confrontation.
Police responded to an undisclosed Leesburg residence in reference to a physical altercation at about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, the officer met with 24-year-old Sarina Faith Alford and the female victim. After speaking to both parties, the officer learned that Alford and her 5-year-old daughter were living with her parents as a family unit, the report said.
Alford became upset when she walked into the laundry room to see that her laundry had been removed from the dryer and thrown onto the floor. A verbal argument ensued between Alford and the victim, the report said.
The victim stated that she would rewash the laundry, but Alford continued her aggressive behavior. She cornered the victim while she was in the laundry room and began yelling and getting in her face, the report said.
The victim tried to deescalate the situation without success, so she extended her arms out and crossed them in front of her. Using this pose, she attempted to back Alford out of her space and the laundry room. Alford reacted by flailing her arms and hands, striking the victim multiple times in the face, arms and shoulders. She sustained a minor injury to her left cheek. To defend herself, the victim grabbed Alford’s ponytail and tried to get her away, the report said.
The California native was ultimately arrested on charge of domestic battery. She was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $1,000.
