A Leesburg woman was arrested after she reportedly pushed a deaf woman during an argument regarding her dog.
Police responded to a disturbance at an undisclosed residence in Leesburg at around 9:14 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The female victim was deaf but was able to communicate that 34-year-old Elizabeth Marie Buss was intoxicated and threatening to beat her up.
Upon the officer’s arrival, he spoke with the victim outside the residence. She typed on her phone to converse with the officer, stating that Buss pushed her while they were in a verbal argument, the report said.
The victim further explained that the argument began because Buss was afraid the victim’s dog would bite her kids. While against the couch, the victim was shoved down by Buss with two open hands. She sustained no marks or physical indications of injury, the report said.
The officer then went inside the residence to speak with Buss, who was very hesitant to talk with law enforcement and would not explain what happened. She appeared extremely intoxicated and was slurring her words. She also had difficulty staying focused, the report said.
As Buss was unable or unwilling to provide her account of the incident, the officer asked a male witness who was sitting next to her whether he saw what happened. He said Buss was upset about the victim’s dog. While they were arguing, Buss pushed her down on the couch, the report said.
Buss was again asked if she touched the victim in any way, at which point she admitted she pushed her during the argument, the report said.
Upon conclusion of the investigation, Buss was arrested and charged with simple battery (domestic). The Texas native was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
