A Leesburg man is accused of stabbing his girlfriend’s son with a screwdriver after the victim asked him why he threw his bicycle into a dumpster.

An officer responded around 1:55 a.m. Monday to the Speedway gas station, at 27345 U.S. Hwy. 27, and spoke with the victim, who said his mother and 32-year-old Marco Antonio Garcia had been living in her vehicle wherever they could because his mother is a manager at the store. The victim said he is also homeless and stays in the same area, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The victim said he found Garcia working on a scooter behind Beef O Brady’s, located at 27405 U.S. Hwy 27. He said he approached Garcia and asked him why he threw his bike in the dumpster, and Garcia immediately picked up a large screwdriver and moved towards him, the report said.

The victim said he tried to get away, but Garcia kept coming towards him while swinging the screwdriver in a stabbing motion. The victim was barely able to get off his bike before Garcia swung the weapon again and struck his right wrist. The victim was able to get away and last saw Garcia running west behind the Winn-Dixie Plaza towards County Road 48, according to the report.

The victim sustained a couple of lacerations a few inches in length on his right wrist. Lake EMS responded to the scene, but he refused to be taken to the hospital, the report said.

The officer spoke with the victim’s mother, who witnessed the incident and corroborated his statement. She also saw Garcia flee in the direction of Winn-Dixie. Police K9s were unable to locate Garcia, but the Texas native was found and arrested Monday afternoon, according to the report.

Garcia was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and taken to the Lake County Jail, where bond was set at $10,000.
