A Fruitland Park man was arrested with about five and a half pounds of marijuana after being stopped for driving with headphones in Leesburg.
Police spotted the driver of a white Dodge Charger wearing headphones while driving southbound on North 14th Street at 4:42 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Upon completing a traffic stop, the officer explained the reason for the stop to 27-year- old Diante Trevon Steadman, the driver. Steadman advised that he did not have a valid driver’s license, prompting the officer to run a check on his license history, the report said.
The check revealed that Steadman had his license suspended in February of this year and then had it revoked in March for driving under the influence. There was also a failure to pay financial responsibilities suspension from April, the report said.
Due to this discovery, Steadman was placed under arrest and secured in the officer’s patrol car. While walking to the car, Steadman uttered multiple times that he did not want law enforcement to search his vehicle, the report said.
A vehicle inventory was conducted regardless of Steadman’s request. The officer found a large gray garbage bag on the passenger floorboard. Inside was five vacuum sealed bags which were filled with a green leafy substance that resembled marijuana. The bags weighed a total of about 5.6 pounds, the report said.
At the end of the investigation, Steadman was charged with possession of marijuana and driving while license suspended. He was transported to the Lake County Jail for booking with bond set at $15,000.
