A 14-year-old boy from Leesburg was arrested after reportedly striking a teacher who was breaking up a fight at the Academy of Lake Hills South in Mascotte.

The student, whose name is being withheld because he is a juvenile, was charged with battery on a school official.

An officer assigned to the school responded to a red alert issued for Classroom 8 during the afternoon Tuesday. When the officer arrived, he watched the student the juvenile was intending to fight leave the classroom with no injuries, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, a female teacher, advised she tried to stop the juvenile from hitting the other student, the report said. The juvenile punched her in the arm several times and hit her in the face during the process.

The victim sustained a scratch on her right cheek and several scratches and marks on her left arm. The officer examined these injuries and took photographs of them, the report said.

The juvenile was then arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail without incident.
